Carlyle Group: Modernizing Benefits Communication Through Design
Project Overview
Carlyle Group, a global investment firm, needed to simplify and energize its annual enrollment communications. I led the creative redesign in partnership with WTW to refresh the visual language, making benefits materials more accessible, engaging, and brand-aligned for employees at every level.
The Challenge
Annual enrollment can feel overwhelming and impersonal. Carlyle’s existing materials were dense, text-heavy, and lacked visual hierarchy—making it difficult for employees to understand key information and take action during a critical time of year.
The Strategy
We reimagined the enrollment experience through the lens of clarity, warmth, and simplicity. My goal was to design a clean, modern visual system that maintained Carlyle’s professionalism while humanizing the content. The emphasis: ease of navigation, thoughtful use of color, and clear callouts for what matters most.
Creative Execution
I developed a branded communications package that included:
Print & Digital Guides – Designed for quick scanning, with clean layouts and iconography
Email Graphics & Templates – Optimized for internal distribution and mobile viewing
Infographics – Visual explanations of benefit changes and actions required
Interactive PDFs – Clickable navigation and embedded video links
Tone of Voice Refinement – Worked with writers to make the language more employee-focused and friendly
Results & Impact
The updated campaign increased employee engagement during the enrollment window and received positive feedback from both internal stakeholders and employees. The design system became a new baseline for Carlyle’s HR communications, expanding into onboarding and wellness initiatives.
“This was a game-changer for how we communicate with employees—it finally felt like us.”
